The Kick Cancer Soccer Camp is a camp with a purpose! Its mission is to bring together children/youth and top area soccer players and coaches for a day of soccer fun while raising awareness and funds in support of pediatric cancer research.
Every participating child/youth ages 3-18 years is paired-up with top area soccer players and coaches, receives a t-shirt and healthy snacks.
In 2016, our celebrity guest was Renae Cuéllar, a talented member of Mexico Women’s National Soccer Team and San Antonio’s camp successfully raised over $5,000 for the Curing Children’s Cancer Fund!
Jorge Ramirez and Lourdes Castro Ramirez launched San Antonio’s camp in 2013 to honor their beloved son, Nicolas “Nico” Ramírez Castro. Nico—a talented, witty, caring and athletic boy—dreamed of becoming a professional and international soccer player; however, Nico’s dream was cut short. At the age of 9 he was diagnosed with childhood hepatocellular carcinoma, a malignant cancerous tumor. After a 16-month courageous journey to find a cure, they lost Nico on November 18, 2012, at the age of 11.
Each year in the U.S., an estimated 15,780 children are diagnosed with cancer. This heartbreaking disease continues to scar families and communities. This is why Jorge and Lourdes dedicate themselves to combating this terrible illness—to remember Nico’s love of life, his compassion for others, and his passion for soccer; and to stand with families facing childhood cancer today.
STAND WITH US! The goal is to have 150 children and youth participate in the next camp and to raise $10,000 for pediatric cancer research efforts in San Antonio! This cannot happen without your support.
Register your children, grandchildren or kids from your neighborhood www.nicosdream.org. And, help promote the camp through your networks, soccer clubs, and school communities.
